This 6-hour Safety Award for Teachers Course in gives candidates the opportunity to earn the . As part of the course, participants develop the essential knowledge and practical skills needed for effective poolside safety and emergency response. Learners will receive comprehensive training in pool rescue techniques, first aid, and CPR for adults, children, and infants. All these are integral to a safety award. Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools and British Standard BS EN 15288 Part 2, Safety Requirements for Operations, are covered. In order to complete this Safety Award for Teacher qualification candidates must reach the following Pre-Requisites:

  • Be 14 years of age or older.
  • Be able to swim 25 metres (candidates who cannot swim 25 metres must be capable of wading, and effecting a rescue, in a pool with a depth no greater than chest height)
  • Be able to surface dive and recover an object from the deepest part of the pool—a requirement reflecting the Safety Award skills required for teachers.

Safety Award for Teacher Course Content :

  • Understanding the Pool Safety Operating Procedures (PSOPs).
  • Being able to administer basic life support in a swimming pool environment is assessed.
  • Knowing how and being able to administer first aid in a swimming pool environment.
  • Being able to perform basic rescue skills in a swimming pool environment.
  • Knowing how to respond to a swimming pool emergency situation.
  • Understanding the importance of recording, reporting and analysing swimming pool emergency situations forms part of the assessment for the Safety Award for Teachers.

The SAT is designed for school staff and focuses on safe supervision of pupils, basic rescue skills, and emergency response during swimming lessons. In contrast, the Emergency Pool Responder is more advanced and aimed at leisure or pool staff, offering deeper rescue techniques and preparing candidates to respond to more serious aquatic emergencies. Essentially, SAT is supervision-focused, while EPR is more rescue and incident-response focused.
