Unit 1: Emergency Paediatric First Aid

- Roles and responsibilities of the first aider
- Now how to spot and emergency
- Injury management – prioritisation of injuries
- Unconscious casualty management – causes and treatment of unconscious collapse
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Adult/Child/Baby & The safe us of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Respiratory management – choking
- Bleeding management – controlling external bleeding and treatment for shock
- Minor Injuries – small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters
- Incident risk management – minimise the risk of infection
Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illnesses, Injuries and Emergencies
- Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis (including auto-injector use)
- Burns, scalds, and electric shock injuries
- Fractures, dislocations, head and spinal injuries
- Febrile convulsions and seizures
- Asthma and respiratory distress
- Diabetic emergencies
- Poisoning and ingestion of harmful substances
- Eye, ear, and nose conditions
- Meningitis and sudden serious illness
